With that in mind, here are 7 things you can look forward to if you’re considering moving to Toronto.
If you ever get lost, just look up.
The CN Tower will quickly become your resource for knowing if you are on the east or west side of the city, and how close or far you are from downtown. It makes for a very useful compass.
It is a city of neighbourhoods.
Toronto is known for its multiculturalism – and that is never more obvious than when you realize each neighbourhood has its own name, culture and history. If you ask someone where a certain bar or park is located, they will tell you the name of the neighbourhood it is in. Little Italy, Chinatown, Little Portugal, Koreatown, The Village, Kensington Market, West Queen West, The Entertainment District, Cabbagetown, Greektown… it goes on and on. You can explore the whole world without ever leaving the city.

Being a city that thrives on its unique cultural neighbourhoods means we directly benefit from the authentic cooking of people from all over the world. You can find literally any dish you might be craving, made to perfection by someone who has actually lived in the place it is from.
Toronto is an incredibly safe city.
The lack of violence and petty crime in Toronto is something of an anomaly for a big city, and part of what makes us so frequently known as one of the most livable cities in the world. You will not have to worry about walking down the street alone at night (but that doesn’t mean you should throw caution to the wind).
You don’t need a car here.
One of the benefits of living here is that you can ditch your car, and the expensive gas and insurance costs that go along with it. While locals love to complain about the TTC – streetcars are frequent, the subway is clean and efficient, and if you’re out very late, there is always a bus running. That said, if you do prefer to have a car – be ready to watch out for cyclists; be aware that there is no such thing as free parking; and know that traffic and parking tickets are unavoidable (and very expensive). It’s also much easier to let us help you move to Toronto, rather than having to make multiple trips in your vehicle.
Rent isn’t cheap, but it’s not as expensive as other big cities.
While the price to buy a house is out of reach for the majority of the population, rent isn’t quite as unattainable. It certainly isn’t cheap, but it won’t cost you as much as it would to live in New York, San Francisco, Vancouver, and many other large cities that offer the same perks.
We get all four seasons.
If you’re moving here from a particularly temperate climate, this is something you need to be ready for. The summers get very humid, and the winters can be quite cold. This is something to keep in mind when packing your things for shipment, as your valuables might need special consideration for the temperature change.
